Basketball Recap: Vance County Comes Up Short

Vance County lost against Warren County back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The contest between the Vance County Vipers and the Warren County Eagles didn't end well, with the Vance County Vipers falling 65-50. The Vipers were down 51-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the defeat, Vance County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Damon Heggie, Jr posted 19 points in addition to five boards and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Heggie, Jr has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyshawn Alston, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Warren County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tony Henderson, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points along with five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nazir Shaw, who went 6 of 10 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds.

Vance County has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Warren County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.

Vance County has already played their next game, an 88-44 loss against South Granville on the 28th. As for Warren County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-59 defeat against North Edgecombe on the 28th.
