Softball Recap: Alonso Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Alonso hadn't beaten Sickles on the road since February 24, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Ravens put the hurt on the Gryphons with a sharp 12-5 win. The Ravens might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by six runs or more this season.

Karina Lozada was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Sophia Gunnin was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Jolie Perillo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Alonso hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Alonso has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Sickles, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alonso will challenge Wharton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sickles, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Leto at 7:00 p.m. on the 15th.
