League recap: Lakin climbs in state rankings with win

Lakin moved up to 128 from 162 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Hi-Plains. The Broncs were able to make the jump by beating Sublette 49-7.

Stanton County extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Southwestern Heights, 35-0. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Elkhart's dynamic duo of Alex Gomez and Jordan Forbit proved tough for Wichita County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gomez threw for 401 yards and six touchdowns and Forbit had 186 yards receiving. AJ Mckinley helped Elkhart's passing attack out by catching three balls for 118 yards.

Gage McAtee was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 162 yards as Lakin bested the Indians. Teammate Ty Adams added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.

Elkhart's Gomez and Forbit have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Hi-Plains in both passing and receiving yards. Gomez has thrown for 861 yards this season, while Forbit, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 17 catches for 421 yards. Cimarron's Ty Clark leads the league in rushing yards with 704.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Stanton County takes on Meade. The Trojans have allowed six points this season, while the Buffaloes have given up 55.

Meade was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to second in the league. Earlier in the week, the Buffaloes defeated the Bluejays 56-0.
