Baseball Recap: Floyd Central Victorious

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Floyd Central and Pike County Central have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Jaguars narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hawks 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Jaguars: when they faced off against the Hawks on April 8th, they had to take a 3-2 defeat.

Landon Prater tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matchups.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jace Martin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Kolten Crum, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Floyd Central's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Pike County Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Floyd Central will head out to square off against Lawrence County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pike County Central, they will venture away from home to challenge Tug Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
