Softball Game Preview: Frontenac Raiders vs. Diamond Wildcats

The Frontenac Raiders will square off against the Diamond Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Frontenac comes in on 11 and Diamond on six.

On Monday, Frontenac had just enough and edged out Mt. Vernon 2-1.

Liberal typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Diamond proved too difficult a challenge. They never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Considering the Wildcats have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Taelyn Reeder was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Kabrie Parmley was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Frontenac pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Diamond, their record now sits at 22-4.

Everything went Frontenac's way against Diamond in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Frontenac made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
