Basketball Recap: Kecoughtan Takes a Loss

Kecoughtan lost against Denbigh back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Kecoughtan Warriors took a 60-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Denbigh Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Patriots are ranked 50th).

When it comes to explaining why Kecoughtan lost, don't look at Caleb Mathews. Despite the final result, he went 10-for-17 on his way to 24 points. Kevin Dryden was another key player, putting up 12 points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Kecoughtan and nudges their season record down to 11-10. As for Denbigh, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kecoughtan will square off against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kecoughtan is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season. As for Denbigh, they will challenge Menchville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Denbigh is facing Menchville at the right time seeing as Menchville is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
