The Sherrard Tigers will head out to face off against the Macomb Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sherrard has five straight victories, Macomb has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Sherrard was able to grind out a solid win over Morrison, taking the game 9-5.
Savanah Hauger was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nadia Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Makensie Westfall, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Sherrard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Macomb lost 11-3 to Jacksonville on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Bombers have lost by exactly eight runs.
Macomb saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josie Elbe, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Olivia Whitney was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Sherrard's record is now 5-0. As for Macomb, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Macomb's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sherrard has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Macomb, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Sherrard's sizable advantage in that area, Macomb will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sherrard took their victory against Macomb in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 17-0. Does Sherrard have another victory up their sleeve, or will Macomb turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
