Baseball Recap: Burton Wins Going Away Against O'connell

Burton won the last time they faced O'Connell and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pumas blew past the Boilermakers 17-2. The Pumas might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Elijah Alferez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, Christian Pabalate was a standout: he scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Burton is 8-3 when Pabalate posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Burton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .524. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Burton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.8 runs over those games. As for O'Connell, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Burton will square off against San Francisco Waldorf at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Pumas are facing the Wolverines at the right time seeing as the Wolverines are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for O'Connell, they will take on Galileo at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
