Basketball Game Preview: Mayer Wildcats vs. Grand Canyon Phantoms

The Mayer Wildcats will take on the Grand Canyon Phantoms at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mayer has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 6.

Mayer lost 45-24 to Ash Fork on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered against the Spartans since January 18, 2019.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grand Canyon). They escaped with a win on Friday against Music Mountain by the margin of a single free throw, 78-77.

Mayer's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Grand Canyon, their win ended a 16-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12.

Mayer came out on top in a nail-biter against Grand Canyon when the teams last played back in February of 2022, sneaking past 33-30. Will Mayer repeat their success, or does Grand Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
