Softball Recap: Hillcrest's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

There's no place like home for Hillcrest, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against the J.L. Mann Patriots on Friday as they made off with a 13-0 win. The Rams not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5, 2024.

Olivia Baker made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maria Sialmas, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Tatum Lane was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Hillcrest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Hillcrest moved to 4-8 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for J.L. Mann, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Hillcrest didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 7-2 win against Easley on the 1st. As for J.L. Mann, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 8-5 defeat against St. Joseph's Catholic on the 1st.
