Preview: Las Animas Trojans vs. Swallows Charter Academy Spartans
Las Animas is 10-0 against Swallows Charter Academy since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Las Animas Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Hopefully Las Animas is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Swallows Charter Academy in Colorado (Las Animas is ranked 115th, while Swallows Charter Academy is ranked 280th).
Las Animas has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 40-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cheraw on Tuesday. Las Animas has not had much luck with Cheraw recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Las Animas saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jadann Eck, who scored eight points along with three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Chanel LaBarge, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Swallows Charter Academy ended up a good deal behind Rocky Ford on Tuesday and lost 46-30. Swallows Charter Academy was down 38-15 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Las Animas' loss ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4. As for Swallows Charter Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-13.
Las Animas was able to grind out a solid win over Swallows Charter Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 51-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Las Animas since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
