Basketball Recap: Pierce Richardson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Liberty Common over Resurrection Christian

Liberty Common was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 58-49 to the Resurrection Christian Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Cougars are ranked fifth).

Liberty Common lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Pierce Richardson, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Clay, who went 7 of 15 to rack up 14 points.

Resurrection Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ty Yoder out in front who went 6 for 14 on his way to 19 points and five assists. Yoder is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Blake Cox, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

Liberty Common's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Resurrection Christian, the win keeps them at an undefeated 17-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Liberty Common will take on Brush at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Liberty Common is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.3 points per game this season. As for Resurrection Christian, they will face off against Platte Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Resurrection Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Platte Valley likes a good challenge.
