Softball Game Preview: Chowchilla Tribe vs. Yosemite Badgers

The Chowchilla Tribe will head out to square off against the Yosemite Badgers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chowchilla is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.

Chowchilla's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Minarets with a sharp 15-0 win. The Tribe haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brianna Guardado was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylee Vlot, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Diaz was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Chowchilla lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Yosemite fell victim to Liberty and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 18-0. The Badgers just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Chowchilla's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Yosemite, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Chowchilla couldn't quite get it done against Yosemite in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Tribe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
