Basketball Recap: Rangeview Takes a Loss

Rangeview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-51 heartbreaker at the hands of the Vista PEAK Prep Bison. The Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bison earlier this season, when they won 48-46.

Despite the loss, Rangeview saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zania Romero-King went 6-for-9 on her way to 15 points and four steals. Romero-King also set a new season-high mark in field goal percentage with 67%. Jaya Santana was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vista PEAK Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jade Hibbler, who posted ten points along with five assists and five steals. Hibbler is becoming a predictor of Vista PEAK Prep's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 3-1 (and 6-12 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Knakai Starks, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Rangeview now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Vista PEAK Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Rangeview will take on Pueblo West on Wednesday. Pueblo West will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Rangeview surely won't give up without a fight. As for Vista PEAK Prep, they will face off against Legacy on Wednesday. Vista PEAK Prep is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.7 points per game this season.
