Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Najeh Potts and Rico Hickman Lead Clover to Victory

Clover posted their closest victory since January 9th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 50-47 win over the West Mecklenburg Hawks. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Blue Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 32nd in South Carolina, while the Hawks are ranked 122nd in North Carolina).

Leading Clover to victory were Rico Hickman and Najeh Potts. Hickman posted 12 points, while Potts dropped a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards.

Clover was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Mecklenburg only racked up two.

When it comes to explaining why West Mecklenburg lost, don't look at Josiah Bridges. Despite the final result, he went 6-for-9 to rack up 21 points. With that strong performance, Bridges is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Nasir White, who scored 16 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Clover and bumps their season record up to 6-1. As for West Mecklenburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Clover has already played their next contest, a 52-46 win against York on the 13th. West Mecklenburg and Ballantyne Ridge will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks will be up against the Wolves' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.88 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
