Softball Recap: Poquoson's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Poquoson dropped their record down to 10-2 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 11-4 to the Grafton Clippers. The Islanders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Clippers earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Layla Wheeler was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Peyton Duval also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Grafton, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-8. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

On Grafton's side, they secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Alexis Henley, who went 2-for-5 with one RBI.

Coming up, Poquoson will welcome Jamestown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Islanders are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Grafton, they will head out to face off against Bruton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.07 runs per game on average), something the Clippers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
