League recap: Brand breaks off league-leading run for Houston

Houston's Quan Brand rumbled for the longest rushing play in 4A Region 4 this season in his game against Caledonia last week. Brand ran for 98 yards on the play and finished with 164 on the day as his team beat the Confederates.

Noxubee County extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Leake Central, 45-3. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.

Wyatt Roberts put up the best numbers through the air as Louisville beat Kosciusko. He finished with five completions for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Roberts' favorite target this week was Dontae Jones, who caught two passes for 38 yards.

Chris Thorton was the best wideout in the league this week as Houston topped Caledonia. Thorton racked up two receptions for 86 yards. Brand helped Houston's passing attack out by catching one ball for 45 yards.

Sharone Wright provided a threat through the air and on the ground as William Cook's team defeated Richard Kendrick's team. He completed five passes for 157 yards and also ran for 150 yards.

The Wildcats' Roberts and Desmond Goss have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Roberts has thrown for 1633 yards this season, while Goss, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 29 catches for 532 yards. Noxubee County's Darrell Robinson leads the league in rushing yards with 1030.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Noxubee County takes on second place Houston. Tyrone Shorter's team bested the Gators last week, while the Hilltoppers topped the Confederates.

Wright of the Houston is only 85 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Wright has rushed for 915 yards on 136 carries so far this year.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Hilltoppers take on Noxubee County. Houston's offense has scored 273 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Tigers have allowed only 38 on the year.
