Preview: Jimtown Jimmies vs. New Prairie Cougars
Jimtown is 1-9 against New Prairie since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Jimtown Jimmies will head out on the road to take on the New Prairie Cougars at 6:30 p.m. New Prairie took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Jimtown, who comes in off a win.
Jimtown's four-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They took down Trinity 37-19. The win was just what Jimtown needed coming off of a 66-32 defeat in their prior game.
Jimtown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalie Butler, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Justyce Williams, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, New Prairie unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 49-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mishawaka. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as New Prairie came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Mishawaka is ranked 237th).
New Prairie's loss came about despite a quality game from Jayden Flagg, who scored 17 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan White, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Jimtown's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-13. As for New Prairie, their loss dropped their record down to 18-5.
Friday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Williams and Flagg. Williams has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 14.2 points and 2.6 steals. For her part, Flagg has averaged 14.4 points, 2.4 steals, and 4.7 assists.
Jimtown lost to New Prairie on the road by a decisive 57-38 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Jimtown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
