Recap: SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars vs. Ayden - Grifton Chargers
The SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ayden - Grifton 51-21 on the road. The victory was just what SouthWest Edgecombe needed coming off of a 71-23 loss in their prior matchup.
SouthWest Edgecombe found their leader in underclassman Kd Collins, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Collins has scored at least a third of SouthWest Edgecombe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of A'Chonacey (Chonie) Mabry, who scored eight points along with ten steals.
SouthWest Edgecombe's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Ayden - Grifton, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-21.
Coincidentally, SouthWest Edgecombe and Ayden - Grifton will both be playing Washington the next time they take the court. SouthWest Edgecombe will host Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Ayden - Grifton will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
