Basketball Recap: Topsail Falls Short of Richmond in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Topsail couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 58-45 to the Richmond Raiders on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Raiders are ranked 17th).

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Riley Trimble, who posted eight points and seven boards. Hayden Procida also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Richmond's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamyia 'Juicy' Lindsey, who put up 20 points and eight rebounds. Lindsey has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasiah 'Jo Jo' Gilchrist, who went 6-for-13 on her way to 17 points and seven boards.

Topsail's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.8 points over those games. As for Richmond, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 21-5.

Topsail does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Richmond, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-44 win against New Hanover on the 4th.
