Baseball Recap: James Kenan Takes a Loss

If James Kenan was feeling good fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Kinston last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers fell 12-8 to the Southwest Onslow Stallions on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Stallions: they've now lost eight in a row.

Eli Avent was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played. Another player making a difference was Paxton Smith, who scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

James Kenan's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Southwest Onslow, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, James Kenan and Southwest Onslow will both be playing South Lenoir the next time they take the field. The Stallions will head out to face the Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
