Derby faced Hutchinson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers' defense stepped up to hand the Salthawks a 3-0 shutout. Considering Derby have won seven contests by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Derby, bringing their record up to 13-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. As for Hutchinson, they dropped their record down to 7-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Derby will face off against Valley Center on Tuesday. Valley Center's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Hutchinson, they will look to defend their home pitch on Thursday against Trinity Academy at 6:30 p.m.
