Basketball Recap: Monument Valley Cougars vs. Green River Pirates
Monument Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They were outmatched by the Green River Pirates and fell 114-29. The Cougars lost against the Pirates in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 74-41 score last time.

Josiah Gipe and Akecheta Shortman certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Gipe posted ten points, while Shortman had three points. The dominant performance gave Gipe a new career-high in points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Green River to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Hernandez, who went 10 for 22 en route to 29 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. Green River is 11-2 when Hernandez posts three or more steals, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rolando Anguiano, who went 10 of 15 on his way to 25 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Monument Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Green River, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 13-5.
Monument Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 89-50 loss against Escalante on the 31st. As for Green River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-45 win against Monticello on the 28th.
