Softball Recap: Lancaster Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Lancaster's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 17-5 margin over the Cedar Hill Longhorns. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 16 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sophia Zuniga made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up a single earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsea Patton, who scored four runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of DeKoyva Nickerson, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Lancaster's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Cedar Hill, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Coming up, Lancaster will be playing at home against Skyline at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Lancaster likes a good challenge. As for Cedar Hill, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cedar Hill has given up an average of 12.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
