Softball Recap: Unaka Comes Up Short

Unaka fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Cloudland on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Highlanders by a score of 5-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Rangers in their meetings with the Highlanders: they've now lost five in a row.

Kimberly Proffitt spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Unaka saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katlyn Dugger, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run. Dugger has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Kacie Bare also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Unaka's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Cloudland, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season.

Unaka will face off against Sullivan East at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cloudland, they will square off against North Greene at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Highlanders are on a four-game streak of home wins, the Huskies a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
