Softball Recap: Goddard Finds Playoff Glory Versus Miyamura

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Goddard had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Miyamura Patriots by a score of 5-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rockets also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2019.

Juliet Gallegos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Goddard let Marisol Hernandez and Jorelianis Guzman run wild. Hernandez went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Guzman went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That's the most hits Guzman has posted since back in March.

Goddard hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miyamura struck out 13 times.

Goddard's victory bumped their record up to 15-12. As for Miyamura, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season.

Goddard will square off against Aztec at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. Miyamura does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
