For the first time this season, Florence will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will welcome the North Pike Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Florence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Florence is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Seminary just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They lost 14-2 to the Bulldogs. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Florence saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaboris Buckley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Pike waltzed into their game on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 6-1. Six seems to be a good number for the Jaguars as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Dominic Smith made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Jones, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Having lost for the first time this season, Florence fell to 4-1. As for North Pike, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Florence has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Pike struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Florence was able to grind out a solid victory over North Pike in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 4-1. Does Florence have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Pike turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
