Baseball Game Preview: Liberty Baptist Academy Knights vs. Spring Mountain Eagles

Liberty Baptist Academy is a perfect 5-0 against Spring Mountain since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Knights will head out to face off against the Eagles at 2:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Liberty Baptist Academy has five straight victories, Spring Mountain has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Liberty Baptist Academy will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Pahranagat Valley, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Knights put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 16-5 win on Thursday. Considering the Knights have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ryan Campbell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Liberty Baptist Academy is undefeated when Campbell posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

In other batting news, Liberty Baptist Academy got a big performance out of Seth Costello, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Dominic Giannini, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Liberty Baptist Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Spring Mountain came up short against Beatty on Tuesday, falling 17-7.

Liberty Baptist Academy pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Mountain, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Everything went Liberty Baptist Academy's way against Spring Mountain in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Liberty Baptist Academy made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
