Recap: Smiths Station Panthers vs. Auburn Tigers
The Smiths Station Panthers suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Auburn on the road and fell 79-36. While losing is never fun, Smiths Station can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while Auburn is ranked 18th).
Auburn found their leader in underclassman Antwane Daniels, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Daniels has scored all season. Bradley Pearson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five assists.
Smiths Station's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Auburn, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smiths Station will square off against Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully Smiths Station likes a good challenge. As for Auburn, they will head out on the road to challenge Opelika at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Opelika is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
