Softball Recap: North Gaston Wildcats vs. Kings Mountain Mountaineers

North Gaston extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-14 in the process. They came up short against the Kings Mountain Mountaineers, falling 13-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in March.

As for Kings Mountain, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Kings Mountain's part, Maddie Huffman made a big impact no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Huffman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kings Mountain let Kayla McSwain and Avery Cruise run wild. McSwain went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double, while Cruise went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That triple was McSwain's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Camp, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

As of now, neither North Gaston nor Kings Mountain have any future games scheduled.
