Baseball Recap: Nichols Snags Sixth Win in Last Seven Games

Nichols hadn't done well against Canisius recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Vikings' pitchers stepped up to hand the Crusaders an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Trenton Ruffolo was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one triple. Reed Coene was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Nichols is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Canisius, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nichols will host Iroquois at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 3.5, the Redhawks 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Canisius, they will welcome Bishop Timon-St. Jude at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
