Basketball Recap: Monroe Central Golden Bears vs. Delta Eagles
If the Monroe Central Golden Bears were feeling good off their 45-20 takedown of the Cowan Blackhawks last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Monroe Central fell 54-46 to the Eagles on Tuesday. Monroe Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Monroe Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Patterson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Patterson hasn't dropped below three steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimber Abshear, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Monroe Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Delta pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Delta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Barr, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Paizley Cool, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Monroe Central's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Delta, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe Central will challenge the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Blue River Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Saturday. As for Delta, they will head out on the road to square off against the Marauders at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
