Softball Game Preview: Stagg Chargers vs. Rich Township Raptors

The Stagg Chargers will face off against the Rich Township Raptors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Stagg's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hinsdale Central on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Chargers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Stagg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Holly Jirka, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Gabby Janski also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rich Township). Everything went their way against Thornridge on Monday as they made off with a 25-10 win. The victory continues a trend for the Raptors in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won nine in a row.

Ezri Adami was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while going 5-for-5. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Naairah Ali, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Rich Township was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Rich Township's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-9. As for Stagg, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Stagg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Rich Township struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
