Softball Recap: Petoskey Comes Up Short

If Petoskey was feeling good fresh off their 13-6 takedown of Bay City Western on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Northmen fell just short of the Gaylord Blue Devils by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. The Northmen have struggled against the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.

Bre VerCautren spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

Petoskey's loss dropped their record down to 26-6. As for Gaylord, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Blue Devils beat Petoskey by a score of 11-8 later that day.
