Recap: Lakewood Spartans vs. Countryside Cougars
The Lakewood Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 55-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Countryside. Lakewood was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Countryside apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Lakewood still got an impressive performance from David Larkin, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Elijah Davis was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Countryside's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Corey Perlin, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds. Perlin hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Wooley, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Lakewood has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Countryside, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6.
Lakewood will be playing at home against St. Petersburg at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Countryside on the road again on Thursday and play against Tarpon Springs at 7:45 p.m. on January 25th. Tarpon Springs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 606th, while Countryside is ranked 184th).
