Basketball Recap: Capitan Comes Up Short

Capitan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a blow against the Lordsburg Mavericks, falling 76-31. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-44 two weeks ago.

Leading Lordsburg to victory were Zeke De La O and Daniel Scott. De La O posted 27 points and five boards, while Scott dropped a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. De La O's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Aaron Salazar, who put up eight points and five rebounds.

Capitan's defeat dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Lordsburg, their record is now 9-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Capitan will welcome Mescalero Apache at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capitan is facing Mescalero Apache at the right time seeing as Mescalero Apache is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Lordsburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cloudcroft at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
