Football Recap: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. Shelby-Rising City Huskies

After flying high against Johnson-Brock last Friday, Sandy Creek came back down to earth. The Cougars took a 32-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shelby-Rising City Huskies on Friday. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Sandy Creek still got an impressive performance from Kaeden Schmidt, who rushed for 101 yards and a pair of TDs. Schmidt was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 59 yards. Sandy Creek also got help from Wes Biltoft, who showed off his sure hands for 102 receiving yards.

Leading Shelby-Rising City to victory were Carter Eickmeier and Logan Lindsley. Eickmeier gained 117 total yards and three touchdowns, while Lindsley rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. Those 90 rushing yards gave Lindsley a new career-high.

Sandy Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Shelby-Rising City, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
