Concord Academy and SouthLake Christian Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Concord Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Lee Park Prep on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their one-run performance the match before.
Kade Brown was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Concord Academy got a big performance out of Gray Madeira, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances. Those runs marked the first that Madeira scored this season. Noah Hatley was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, SouthLake Christian Academy came into Tuesday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out Hickory Grove Christian 5-4 on Tuesday.
Like Concord Academy, SouthLake Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Evan Hogg. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hogg was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Hogg wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Liam Duffy, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
SouthLake Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
SouthLake Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Concord Academy, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Concord Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like SouthLake Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Concord Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against SouthLake Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4.
