Baseball Recap: Biggsville West Central Takes a Loss

Biggsville West Central had lost ten straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-18 to make it 11. They came up short against the ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars, falling 14-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 back in March.

Biggsville West Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gage Stimpson, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles.

As for ROWVA/Williamsfield, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-12. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On ROWVA/Williamsfield's side, Brody Lytle made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Lytle is becoming a predictor of ROWVA/Williamsfield's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 11-12 when he doesn't). Lytle was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mason Sornberger was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake DeJaynes, who got on base in two of his five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Biggsville West Central will welcome Galva at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for ROWVA/Williamsfield, they will take on Peoria Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
