Preview: Port Byron Panthers vs. Oswego Bucs
The Port Byron Panthers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Oswego Bucs at 6:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Port Byron had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Altmar-Parish-Williamstown.
Meanwhile, Oswego had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 22-14 victory over Notre Dame/Utica Academy of Science on Saturday. The victory was just what Oswego needed coming off of a 38-13 defeat in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Oswego to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matt Willis, who rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Port Byron is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Oswego, their victory bumped their record up to 1-7.
Things could have been worse for Port Byron, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 28-14 loss to Oswego when the teams last played back in October of 2021. Can Port Byron avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
