Recap: Strom Thurmond Rebels vs. Silver Bluff Bulldogs

After a string of three wins, the Strom Thurmond Rebels's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 41-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Silver Bluff. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Strom Thurmond in their matchups with Silver Bluff: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Strom Thurmond still got an impressive performance from Katlyn Chinn, who scored 14 points along with six assists and six steals. Chinn has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lawson Lowe, who scored nine points.

Strom Thurmond struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Silver Bluff pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.

Silver Bluff's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahminah Taylor, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makya Bing, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Strom Thurmond's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Silver Bluff, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Strom Thurmond will take on Fox Creek at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fox Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday. As for Silver Bluff, they will be playing at home against Batesburg-Leesville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Batesburg-Leesville comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
