Baseball Recap: Wayne Christian Takes a Loss

Wayne Christian had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 8-3 to make it four. They lost 12-2 to the John Paul II Catholic Saints. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Caden Salazar was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.

As for John Paul II Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

On John Paul II Catholic's side, Landon Simpson tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Simpson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, JT Williams was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Ashley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Wayne Christian will look to defend their home field on Friday against Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill at 6:00 p.m. As for John Paul II Catholic, they are taking a road trip to square off against Catholic at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
