Baseball Game Preview: Parkland Mustangs vs. Calvary Day School Cougars

The Parkland Mustangs will square off against the Calvary Day School Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Parkland has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with nine straight defeats, while Calvary Day School will come in with four straight victories.

Parkland came up short against Glenn on Tuesday, falling 19-1.

Meanwhile, Calvary Day School hadn't done well against Westchester Country Day recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Cougars came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 20-17.

Patrick Reynolds and Kaden Christian were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Reynolds tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Christian tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has become a key player for Calvary Day School: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise. At the plate, Reynolds scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Christian went 1-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. The dominant performance also gave Reynolds a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Matthew Harrell and Austin Setliff did most of the damage at the plate: Harrell scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Setliff scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Setliff a new career-high. Ryan Grande was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Calvary Day School pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Parkland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-18.
