Basketball Recap: Owen Valley's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Owen Valley entered their game against Cascade on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Owen Valley Patriots took a 57-42 bruising from the Cascade Cadets. The Patriots were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cadets from their previous meeting back in December of 2022.

When it comes to explaining why Owen Valley lost, don't look at Aubrey Sparks. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. Sparks has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Mallory Owen was another key player, putting up four points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Owen Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Chloe Smith, who went 9 of 18 on her way to 24 points along with six boards and four steals for Cascade. Those 24 points gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Hall, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards.

Owen Valley's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2. As for Cascade, their win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Owen Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-34 victory against Indian Creek on the 6th. As for Cascade, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 70-47 defeat against Mooresville on the 12th.
