Basketball Game Preview: Chapman Panthers vs. Landrum Cardinals

Two dominant guards in Grayden Humphries and Benett Edwards are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Chapman Panthers challenge the Landrum Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Monday... Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Chapman's tournament run continued when they took on Chesnee on Saturday. Chapman was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 63-62 to Chesnee. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Eagles are ranked 85th).

Meanwhile, Landrum entered their match against Woodruff on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Landrum fell to Woodruff 65-61.

Chapman will have to contain Edwards as he made an impact in Landrum's last game. He posted seven points in addition to nine rebounds and seven assists. Edwards is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Colby Walker, who put up nine points.

Even though they lost, Landrum smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Chapman has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Landrum, their loss ended a 14-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.

Chapman came up short against Landrum in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 68-64. Can Chapman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
