Southwestern Heights is 2-8 against Cimarron since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will square off against the Bluejays at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
While Southwestern Heights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Sublette a 25-0 shutout on Monday. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Julius Trejo made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Parker Leak, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jason Banman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Southwestern Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Cimarron had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Wildcats. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Bluejays this season.
Like Southwestern Heights, Cimarron also got a great game from a two-way player: Ryder Gordon. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Gordon was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cimarron got a massive performance out of Breck Averhoff, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Coulter Dohrmann was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Southwestern Heights' record now sits at 4-0. As for Cimarron, their record is now 3-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Southwestern Heights has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like Cimarron struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Southwestern Heights might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Cimarron in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
