Basketball Recap: Auburn Mountainview's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Auburn Mountainview put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by an 85-59 margin over the Decatur Golden Gators. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Golden Gators are ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Auburn Mountainview was led to victory by Sebastian Arius and Sudan Luok. Arius dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Luok almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Arius is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Beckett Jones was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Auburn Mountainview was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Decatur only racked up 11 assists.

Defeat or not, Decatur got some senior leadership from Jorge Martinez and Dar Mcjimpson Jr. Martinez went 5 of 9 on his way to 16 points along with six boards and four steals, while Mcjimpson Jr posted 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mcjimpson Jr has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Corbett, who put up six points and ten boards.

Auburn Mountainview pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.6 points per game. As for Decatur, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Auburn Mountainview didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 46-36 win against Jackson on the 21st. As for Decatur, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 47-43 victory against Mt. Rainier on the 30th.
