Basketball Recap: Quemado Comes Up Short

After flying high against Reserve last Thursday, Quemado came back down to earth. The Quemado Eagles took a blow against the Magdalena Steers on Saturday, falling 71-17. The contest marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Magdalena was led to victory by Joseph Zamora and Ayden Herschbach. Zamora went 9-for-14 en route to 20 points and five steals, while Herschbach went 7-for-9 to rack up 20 points and four steals. Zamora's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeffrey Stuteville, who posted eight points along with six steals and five rebounds.

Quemado has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Magdalena, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5.

Coming up, Quemado will challenge Animas at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Quemado is facing Animas at the right time seeing as Animas is stuck on a 21-game losing streak. As for Magdalena, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 84-16 victory against Reserve on the 18th.
