Baseball Game Preview: Lake Weir Hurricanes vs. Leesburg Yellow Jackets

The Lake Weir Hurricanes will take on the Leesburg Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Leesburg took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Weir, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Lake Weir was able to grind out a solid win over St. John Lutheran, taking the game 7-2. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Saints recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

The team relied heavily on Skyler Courtney, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Elliott Fonseca also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Leesburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 15-2 to Mount Dora.

Noah Nepburn made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Lake Weir's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Leesburg, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
