Winthrop hadn't beaten Salem on the road since June 9, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Vikings walked away with a 7-4 win over the Witches. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 16-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Lucy Boncore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 15 Ks.

On the hitting side, Sofia Gonzalez was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1. The team also got some help courtesy of Francesca Indrisano, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

Winthrop's victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Winthrop is set to face off against their familiar foe Saugus at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Salem will square off against rival Gloucester at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
